I have a few question and hope someone can help. We are just starting our search for NC property which will become our family cemetery and investigating state and local laws to make this happen. Being 70ish, with lots of kids/grands/great-grands, we are looking for 3-5 acres.
1. Is there a rule of thumb regarding needed space-per-gravesite?
2. Are there published guidelines/recommendations for actual design, incl trees, etc. of a family cemetery?
3. Would appreciate any constructive DO’s and DON’ts
Thank you so much!

if they’re cremated you can scatter their ashes or bury their ashes a lot more places with a lot fewer regulations. technically you wouldn’t need a family Cemetery for something like that. if you wanted to take a section and section it off you could but it’s not required by any state that I know of

Oh definitely. There are little to no restrictions on where ashes can go as they don’t contain any organic material. Plenty of land.
